🧾 Ingredient notes

Ingredients needed to make vegan sweetened condensed milk.

Soy Milk Powder: If you're out of soy milk powder, no worries! You can swap it with almond, coconut, oat, rice, or cashew milk powder instead.

They all have different tastes and textures and are great alternatives to milk powder, so pick your favorite!

Granulated Sugar: Granulated sugar is the go-to for this recipe, but if you want to mix it up, you can try brown sugar, coconut sugar, or maple syrup.

Just remember, using a different sugar might make your condensed milk turn out a bit darker than usual. It's all about experimenting and finding what you like best!

Coconut Oil: If you're looking for a substitute for coconut oil, you can try options like canola oil, avocado oil, or grapeseed oil.

It's important to choose oils with a neutral flavor, as they won't overpower the taste of the condensed milk.

Avoid using extra virgin olive oil as it has a distinct flavor that may not complement the other ingredients in this recipe.

See the recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.

📋 Variations

  • Chocolate Vegan Condensed Milk: Add cocoa powder or melted chocolate to the mixture for a chocolatey twist.
  • Vanilla Bean Vegan Condensed Milk: Infuse the mixture with vanilla bean seeds or Vanilla Extract for a classic flavor.
  • Coconut Vegan Condensed Milk: Use coconut milk powder instead of soy milk powder for a tropical taste.
  • Almond Vegan Condensed Milk: Substitute almond milk powder and add a splash of almond extract for an almond-flavored option.
  • Maple Vegan Condensed Milk: Replace granulated sugar with maple syrup for a natural sweetness and subtle maple flavor.

🔪 Instructions

Step 2. Incorporate all the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. Use immediately.

💭 Expert tips

  1. Gentle Blending: Blend the ingredients on low speed initially to prevent the mixture from splashing out of the blender. Increase the speed gradually until smooth.
  2. Scrape Down Sides: Pause blending to scrape down the sides of the blender with a spatula. This helps incorporate any stray bits of powder or sugar for a more uniform mixture.
  3. Gradual Water Addition: When blending the ingredients, add the hot water gradually to achieve the desired consistency without making the mixture too thin.
  4. Adjusting Consistency: If it's too thick, add hot water gradually while blending. If it's too thin, blend in more soy milk powder. Go slow to get it just right!
  5. Adjust Sweetness: Taste the condensed milk mixture before using it to ensure it's sweet enough for your liking. You can always add more sugar if needed.

❓Recipe FAQs

How long does it last in the fridge?

It can typically last in the fridge for up to one week when stored in an airtight container. Be sure to give it a good stir before each use, as it may thicken slightly over time.

If you notice any changes in smell, texture, or appearance, it's best to discard it.

Can I freeze it for later use?

While it's possible to freeze it for later use, it may affect the texture and consistency. When frozen, the mixture can become grainy or separate upon thawing.

If you do choose to freeze it, make sure to use a freezer-safe container with a tight-sealing lid. Thaw it in the fridge overnight and give it a thorough stir before using it.

However, for best results, it's recommended to prepare the condensed milk fresh when needed.

Is it possible to adjust the thickness of the condensed milk after it has been prepared?

Yes, you can adjust the thickness of the condensed milk after it's prepared.

If it's too thick, add hot water gradually until desired consistency. If it's too thin, blend in more soy milk powder until thickened.

How can I soften this vegan condensed milk if it hardens in the fridge?

If it hardens in the fridge, don't worry, it's easy to soften it up again! Simply transfer the hardened condensed milk to a microwave-safe bowl or a small saucepan.

If using a microwave, heat it in short intervals, stirring well between each one, until it becomes smooth and creamy again.

If using a saucepan, heat it over low heat, stirring continuously until it softens.

Once it reaches your desired consistency, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly before using it in your recipe.

This simple trick will restore the creamy texture of your condensed milk, making it easy to use in all your favorite dishes.

What can I make with this vegan condensed milk?

With vegan condensed milk, you have a world of delicious possibilities at your fingertips.

You can use it to create indulgent treats like creamy fudge, rich Vegan Ice Cream, or classic Tres Leches Cake with a dairy-free twist.

For a touch of elegance, whip up a vegan flan using the condensed milk as the base for the caramel sauce and custard.

And don't forget to add a splash to your coffee for a rich and creamy dairy-free coffee creamer.

Whether you're satisfying your sweet tooth or adding a creamy touch to your favorite beverages, vegan condensed milk opens up a world of flavor possibilities.

Is there a reason we couldn’t just use organic powdered Sugar instead of blending of granulated sugar?

Hi Loretta! Yes, you could use powdered sugar as well if you want, but granulated sugar is more affordable and a pantry staple 🙂
