This vegan Baileys is healthier and creamier than the original. You won't tell the difference! Ready in 5 minutes with 5 ingredients.

I hardly ever drink alcohol, but when I do, Baileys is one of my favorite options. That's why I'm in love with this vegan Baileys, and it's SO good I want to share the recipe with you. Feel free to enjoy it on Saint Patrick's Day!

Besides, this dairy-free and lactose-free recipe tastes even better than the original one and is 100% plant-based. It is therefore perfect for you if you suffer from lactose intolerance. I've never enjoyed a homemade vegan Baileys as good as this one!

This is such a simple and easy-to-make drink that you won't buy it at the grocery store ever again. Besides, it's gluten-free and only requires 5 ingredients and just 5 minutes. Enjoy!

Ingredient notes

  • Jameson Irish Whiskey: feel free to customize this recipe with any type of whiskey.
  • Vanilla extract: to make this vegan Irish cream I always use homemade vanilla extract as it’s more affordable and extremely easy to make, but the store-bought version will also work.
  • Full-fat coconut milk: you could use another kind of plant milk, such as homemade cashew milk or maybe almond milk. However, I do suggest you use canned coconut milk.
  • Agave or maple syrup: feel free to use other sweeteners instead, such as cane sugar, for example.

Dietary variations

  • Make it sugar-free: I’ve never tried it myself, but you can incorporate dates instead of syrup until the Baileys is sweet enough for you.
Step-by-step photos of how to make this recipe

How to make vegan Baileys

  • Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend for about 1 or 2 minutes.
  • Serve your vegan Baileys chilled or with some ice.

How to store

  • Fridge: keep the leftovers in the fridge for up to 1 week.

Is Baileys vegan?

Original Baileys Irish Cream is a non-vegan drink because it is made with cream that comes from cow's milk, so it does contain dairy.

Serving suggestions

Feel free to add this vegan Baileys to your coffee or vegan hot chocolate for a delicious dessert. Just pour it in, stir, and enjoy!

Thank you very much for this! I couldn’t find any of the coconut milk you suggested (full fat canned) so I used a standard U.K. cartoned coconut milk and thickened it up with some oat-based cream and it worked beautifully. I sweetened it with golden syrup as it was what was in the cupboard. Worked beautifully!

Hi Helen! Homemade vegan Baileys should be refrigerated and can typically be kept for about 1-2 weeks 🙂

Just tried this on a free from mince pie, missed out vanilla and used a cinnamon syrup instead of maple syrup. Yum!

    Hi,
It's Thanksgiving Day and I couldn't wait to post a comment. I just tried this recipe and it's genius. This is NOT the first recipe I've tried from your website... you are amazing. I love Baileys but I have not found any vegan Bailey's that is good. We just came back from the movies, I had ,y Vegan dinner for two already prepped. I thought why not give it a try? thankfully I had all the ingredients except for the brand of whiskey you recommended. I had Johnny Walker Black label and that's what I used. I blended the coconut cream and the rest of the ingredients for 2 minutes it was creamy and delicious. I dissolved 2 teaspoons of Expreso in a quarter of a cup of hot water.
This recipe is definitely a keeper!... I won't have to miss my Bailey's anymore. One problem though we finished it all!🫢😳, my hubby and I, then I saw afterwards the amount of calories 😱but it's Thanksgiving!😊

    Hi

Can this be stored at room temperature?

Just asking because usually coconut milk needs to be refrigerated once opened.

    Thanks for sharing the recipe!

How do you avoid the coconut solidifying? I made this and was delicious, but as soon as the coconut solidifies it's unpleasant to drink.
    Thanks ( :

Hi Elisa! Try to shake the mixture before drinking, or use another brand of coconut milk. Hope it works!

I heated mine on the stove on medium-low for a couple minutes and whisked it as the temperature went up; didn't take long to reincorporate the separated coconut fat.

I made the original from years ago. With this I wonder if the coconut milk could buy subs with Oatly cream ad I am trying to not have any hint of coconut flavour.

I made this using 150ml Jameson and 8 Medjool dates instead of the Agave syrup. I chilled it immediately after blending and gave it as a house warming gift several hours later. Went down an absolute storm, no curdling and everyone said it was far superior to Baileys. Thank you so much for this recipe. I’ll be attempting a chocolate flavoured one next with actual chocolate in it. I’ll let you know how it goes. 😉
