Making chocolate syrup at home is extremely easy. I've been using store-bought chocolate syrup for so many years, but not any more. It's usually made with refined sweeteners and so many other nasty ingredients. Besides, this recipe only requires 2 ingredients I always have on hand and is ready in less than 2 minutes!

Feel free to use any other liquid sweetener as long as it's a natural one (artificial sweeteners are not healthy at all and they're not going to work in this recipe), but maple syrup is my favorite one, because of its taste. Raw cacao and carob powder can also be used instead of the unsweetened cocoa powder, but as I've never used them myself, I don't know if you need to add the same amount (raw cacao has an intense flavor and carob powder is sweeter).

Use it as any other chocolate syrup. It's so delicious with vegan waffles, vegan pancakes, or vegan crepes.

  • ¼ cup maple or agave syrup
  • 2 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
Prevent your screen from going dark

Instructions

  • Add the syrup and cocoa powder to a bowl and mix until well combined.
  • Use immediately or keep leftovers in a sealed container in the fridge for at least 1 or 2 weeks.

Notes

  • Add more or less cocoa powder depending on how sweet you want your chocolate syrup.
  • Feel free to use any syrup you have on hand or another sweetener with a similar consistency.
  • I've never made this recipe using raw cacao or carob powder, but I think it should work (add more or less if needed).

Absolutely love this syrup. Super rich chocolatey (I use dark chocolate) syrup and easy to make at a moment’s notice. Perhaps too easy!

I had the measurements exactly backward but this is terrific. I used a quarter cup of cocoa and I think it took 6 table spoons to agave to give it the viscosity I wanted. Others might like theres a bit thinner but is terrific.

I have only used a couple of your recipes ( I otherwise use cookbooks) but you are always my go-to place to go when I need them. I love your set-up on your website and how easy it is to find the recipe and to dodge all the ads. Thank you!

This is super delicious and easy! I microwaved it for 20 sec. to make sure the cacao blended in well and whisked again. I was making this for my vegan daughter, but will be serving it to everyone!

I used the organic cacao powder with the organic maple syrup. I put in an extra 1/2 tbsp. of cacao to intensify the chocolate flavor. Then I tried it with raw organic cacao using the 2 tbsp. To the 1/4 cup maple syrup . Darker, richer flavor. That is one I will use forever. Thank you 🦋
